Maru Negroamaro Salento IGT 37,5 cl C M
Maru was one of Castello Monaci's first products; it is a single grape variety based on one of the most important natives of the area: Negroamaro. There is an ongoing controversy over the meaning of the name of the vine: some believe that it is the repetition of the word black in two languages: "niger" in Latin and "mavros" in Greek; others say that bitter indicates that herbaceous and often slightly rough aftertaste of wine.
Maru in the Salento dialect means "severe", "dark" due to a certain austerity that the vine itself tends to express.
